Exemption from strike actionFri Mar 10 03:54pm
Exemption from strike action on Thursday 16 March
On Thursday 16 March Primary and Secondary school teachers in New Zealand are striking to seek better work conditions.
NZEI gave schools in Cyclone affected regions the option to vote on a strike exemption and remain open.
When our staff reflected on the disruption caused to people’s lives, businesses and homes in our area they voted to OPEN on Thursday 16 March.
We will NOT be striking.
This does not mean that we do not support the claims of the collective bargaining and the actions of the teachers but, in an area as affected as ours, we decided this action was not appropriate at this time. Staff will be wearing black to show their support for their colleagues and will be arriving just before students arrive from 8.15am and leaving school as soon as the last students leave at 3.15pm to reflect this support for striking teachers.

Online learning tomorrowThu Feb 23 03:41pm
Kia ora koutou,
Given the potential for further risks on our already vulnerable roads and the unsafe conditions that the significant predicted rainfall may cause ,we have made the decision to close the school site tomorrow – Friday 24th February and use the online learning material sent out.
We felt it important to give you as much notice as possible. The safety and well being of our school community is paramount. Students and staff are not required on site.
We are acting out of caution and would rather make an over-cautious decision than have students, staff and parents in unsafe conditions.
Miss Holyoake and Mrs Tolley will be available via email from 8.45- 3.15pm with any questions about the learning.
We will rearrange our mufti day for next Friday.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

School tomorrow – online learningWed Feb 15 03:08pm
Wednesday 16 February
Kia ora e te whānau,
A decision has been made to open school tomorrow ( Thursday) for online learning only as many of the roads in the district are still closed, washouts / slips are still evident along with more rain forecasted tomorrow. As you can appreciate, the safety of everyone in our community is paramount.
We are also aware that the bulk of our community and some of our staff are isolated due to road closures.
Our thoughts go out to those families who have had to evacuate, and whanāu that has been greatly affected by the cyclone. We are aware many are without power, internet and other services. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
In the meantime take time to look after yourselves, your family and property.
An email will be sent out to all families with digital slides attached for the Hub and Room One should you wish to engage in learning whilst at home. Miss Holyoake and Mrs Tolley will be available via email from 8.45 – 3.15 pm tomorrow with any questions about the learning.
I will be in touch again tomorrow afternoon. Please keep an eye out for notices via email / facebook page / school app.
With communication being a challenge for some of us at this time, please share this with whānau and friends.
School Closure Wednesday 15th FebTue Feb 14 02:48pm
School Closure – Wednesday 15 February
Given the large amount of rain that has fallen in our community over the past day due to Cyclone Gabrielle there are significant hazards on our roads with the risks of slips, slumps, washouts, as well as trees falling onto our roads throughout the district.
The safety of our students, families, bus drivers and staff is our number one priority and subsequently we have made the decision to remain closed tomorrow- Wednesday 15 February to allow roads/ slips to be cleared safely and water levels to abate to a safe level for travelling.
Please continue to check emails and our facebook page / school app for further information about Thursday onwards.
Students can access learning from home, students in the Hub can access various learning platforms ( EPIC, prototec basic facts, splash learn, studyladder)- the children have been shown how to access these, should you wish your child to be engaged with some learning activities.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
Take care and stay safe
